Dr. J.C. Mungar Optometry is at 135 Lakeshore Road West in south Oakville, with free parking on site. Call us, book online, or send a message and we will get back to you on the next working day.
For anything urgent, please call rather than emailing or booking online. The phone is the fastest way to be seen the same day. Not sure which appointment you need? The services page has a short guide, or just call and the front desk will book you into the right one.
We are on the south side of Lakeshore Road West, between Kerr Street and Bronte Road, a short walk from Kerr Village and about five minutes from downtown Oakville.
Free parking is available on site, so there is no need to feed a meter or circle the block. Look for the clinic signage at street level. Most appointments are comprehensive eye exams, which take 30 to 45 minutes. Children's eye exams are booked the same way and are covered by OHIP to age 20.
The clinic sits on the Lakeshore corridor, which makes it straightforward to reach from most of south Oakville and west Mississauga without using the highway.
By car From the QEW take Kerr Street or Bronte Road south to Lakeshore Road West, then turn toward the clinic. Roughly ten minutes from the highway.
Parking Free parking on site. There is also municipal parking in Kerr Village if the lot happens to be full.
By transit Oakville Transit routes run along Lakeshore Road West and Kerr Street. Oakville GO Station is about a ten minute drive or a short bus connection.
Coming from further out A straight run east along Lakeshore from Bronte, and an easy drive for patients in Clarkson, Lorne Park and Port Credit.
Call us on (905) 842-3411 rather than booking online or emailing. Sudden vision loss, eye pain, a new shower of floaters, flashes of light, an injury or something caught in your eye all need seeing quickly, and we will make room the same day. For eye problems specifically, an optometrist can often assess and treat the problem directly. More on emergency eye care.
Yes, and no referral is needed. Optometrists are primary care providers in Ontario, so you can book directly whether you are new to the clinic or new to Oakville.
Yes, free parking is available on site at 135 Lakeshore Road West, so there is no meter to feed. If the lot is full, there is municipal parking nearby in Kerr Village.
Your current glasses and contact lenses, your health card, and a list of any medications you take. Records from a previous optometrist are helpful but not required.
If your eyes may be dilated, bring sunglasses and arrange not to drive immediately afterwards.
Call the clinic on (905) 842-3411 as early as you can. Please phone rather than email for short notice changes, since email is answered on the next working day and your appointment may have already passed.
Yes. You are entitled to a copy of your prescription and we are happy to provide one. Email reception@mungar.com or call the clinic and we will arrange it.
Note that a glasses prescription and a contact lens prescription are different documents, so please say which one you need.
Yes, for patients whose exams are covered. That includes anyone under 20, anyone 65 or over, and patients with a qualifying condition such as diabetes or glaucoma at any age. Bring your health card and there is nothing to pay for a covered visit.
Adults aged 20 to 64 without a qualifying condition pay at the time of the visit and can usually claim it back through workplace benefits.
New patients are always welcome. Book online whenever suits you, or call the clinic during opening hours and we will find a time that works.

I have been going to Dr. Mungar for 35 years. He really cares about his patients. An example: When I had an eye issue a few years ago he saw me immediately (after 5PM) and determine it was serious and arranged for me to go to Hamilton General where is was confirmed I had a detached retina and operated the following morning. If he hadn't reacted so quickly I would have lost my sight in my left eye. Highly recommend him.Posted on Google![]()
